Brief introduction:- 

Computer Hardware is the physical part of a computer, as distinguished from the computer software that executes or runs on the hardware. The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, while software and data are modified frequently. The term soft refers to readily created, modified, or erased. These are unlike the physical components within the computer which are hard.
When you think of the term computer hardware you probably think of the guts inside your personal computer at home or the one in your classroom. However, computer hardware does not specifically refer to personal computers. Instead, it is all types of computer systems. 

 

The computer system consists of two major elements: Hardware and software. The hardware which is situated inside the PC and is the main components to make the PC is known as components inside PC.

Functions of components inside the PC:

1)       MOTHERBOARD :
A motherboard is one of the most essential part of a computer system. It holds together many of the central components of a computer including the central processing unit (CPU, memo and connectors for input and output devices.


2)       VIDEO CARD:
A video cards connects to the motherboard of a computer system and generates output images to display. Video cards are also referred to as graphic cards. Video cards include a processing unit, memory, a cooling mechanism and connections to a display device.

3)       PROCESSOR:
The central processing unit (CPU) of a computer is a piece of hardware that carries out the instructions of a computer system. It perform the basic arithmetical, logical and input/output operation of a computer system. The CPU is sometimes also referred to as the central processor unit or processor for short.

4)       GRAPHICS CARD:
Function of the graphic card allow computer to produce graphics and images more quickly. A graphics card has its own processor, a GPU or graphical processing unit, according to Jason Cross at PC world. The video card connect to the motherboard and the monitor.

5)       MEMORY (RAM):
Random Access memory (RAM) is the physical hardware inside a computer that temporarily stores data. Serving as the computers ‘working’ memory. Additional RAM allows a computer to work with more information of at the same time, which usually has a considerable effect on total system performance.

6)       CHIP SET AND BUSES:
The chipset controls the bits (data, addresses and control signals) that flow between the CPU and system memory over the motherboard’s buses. The chipset manages data transfers between the CPU memory and peripheral devices. It also supports the expansion bus and any power management features of the system.

7)       MEMORY (ROM) :
ROM stands for read only memory. It is used to store the startup instruction for a computer, also known as the firmware. Most modern computers use flashed based ROM, It is a part of BIOS chip, which is located on the motherboard.

8)       THE POWER CONNECTORS:
Power connectors are devices that allows an electrical current to pass through it for the exclusive purpose of providing power to a device (not a data stream, for e.g.; an anything more complex). Power connectors can carry either an alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC).

9)       SMPS:
SMPS stands for Switch-Mode-Power-Supply. They are used in many places in a computer. In a modern computer, there is a SMPS that takes rectified AC input from the wall, perform power factor correction & then converts the output into one or more lower voltage DC outputs.

10)    CD-RW:
CD-RW (Compact disc- Rewritable) is a digital optical disc storage format introduced in1997. A CD-RW compact disc (CD-RW’s) can be written, read, erased, and re-written. CD-RW is compact disc that can be recorded and erased multiple times.

11)    HARD DISK:
The hard disk is a spindle of magnetic disks, called platters, that record and store information. Because the data is stored magnetically, information recorded to the hard disk remains intact after you turn your computer off. The hard disk is housed inside the hard disk, which reads and writes data to the disk.

12)    DVD-ROM:
Digital versatile disc- read only memory (DVD-ROM) is a read only digital versatile disc (DVD) is commonly used for storing large software application. DVDROM has capacity to store the data is about 4.38 GB.

13)    SOUND CARD:
A sound card is an expensive card or 1C for producing sound on a computer that can be heard through speakers or headphones. Although the computer does not need a sound device to function, they are included on every machine in form to another, either in an expansion slot or built into the motherboard.

14)    MEMORY SLOTS :
 A memory slots or ram slot is what allows computer memory (RAM) chip or stick to be inserted into the computer. Depending on the motherboard, there will usually 2 to 4 memory slots (sometimes more on high end motherboard) and are what determine the type of RAM used with the computer.

15)    BIOS:
A  computer’s basic input output system and complementary. Metal oxide semiconductor together handle a rudimentary and essential process: they set up the computer and boot the operating system. The BIOS’s primary function is to handle the system setup process including driver loading and operating system.

16)    EXPANSION SLOTS:
An expansion slot is a socket on the motherboard that is used to insert an expansion card (or circuit board), which provides additional features to a computer such as video, sound, advanced graphic, Ethernet or memory.

17)    IDE & SATA PORTS:
IDE and SATA are different types of interfaces to connect storage devices
(like hard drives) to a computer system bus. SATA stands for Serial Advanced
Technology Attachment (or Serial ATA) & IDE is also called Parallel ATA or PATA, SATA is the never standard and SATA drives are faster than PATA (IDE) drives.

18)    CIMOS BATTERY:
The CMOS is a physical part of the motherboard: it is a memory chip that houses setting configuration and is powered by the onboard battery. The CMOS is reset and loses all custom settings in case the battery runs out of energy, Additional, the system clock resets when the CMOS loses power.

19)    CD-ROM:
Compact disk- read only memory (CD-ROM) is a read only compact disk (CD-ROM) commonly used for storing files of music. CD-ROM has the capacity to store data of 650 mb.

20)    PROCESSOR SOCKET:
The processor socket (also called a CPU socket) is the connector on the motherboard that hoses a CPU and forms the electrical interface and contact with
the CPU. Processor sockets use a pin grid array (PGA) where pins on the underside of the processor connect to holes in the processor socket.
